Similarities in the Ark and Jesus

Bible Book: Genesis  6 : 12-18
Subject: Ark, Safety in the; Jesus is the Ark; Salvation; Judgment
Introduction

Genesis 6: 12 -18

12 So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. 13 And God said to Noah, "The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth. 14 Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch. 15 And this is how you shall make it: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits. 16 You shall make a window for the ark, and you shall finish it to a cubit from above; and set the door of the ark in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third decks. 17 And behold, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die. 18 But I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall go into the ark — you, your sons, your wife, and your sons' wives with you. 19 And of every living thing of all flesh you shall bring two of every sort into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. 20 Of the birds after their kind, of animals after their kind, and of every creeping thing of the earth after its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive. 21 And you shall take for yourself of all food that is eaten, and you shall gather it to yourself; and it shall be food for you and for them." 22 Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did. NKJV

Let me ask a few questions to test your knowledge about the Ark. Now pay close attention to the questions. What was the first kind of bird that flew out the window of the ark? A raven. You're right.

God commanded the acquisition of clean and unclean animals to be brought onto the ark. How many animals did God command Moses to bring on the Ark? None! Moses was not even alive at this time it was Noah.

Now I want to point out some similarities between the Ark and Jesus.

I. The Purpose of the Ark

To Save Noah and His Family.

Ge 6:17-18

17 And behold, I Myself am bringing flood waters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die. 18 But I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall go into the ark — you, your sons, your wife, and your sons' wives with you. NKJV

Did you know the length of life greatly changed after the flood? Compare the life spans before the flood with those after the flood. The life span average before the flood was 912 years, after the flood 222 years. 969 Meth. 950 Noah, 175 Abraham, 147 Jacob, 110, Joseph, 71 David. II. The Purpose of The Lord Jesus. Mt 1:21

And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." NKJV

Lk 19:10 for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost." NKJV

Ro 5:6 For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. NKJV

1 Jn 4:9-11 9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. NKJV

III. The Similarity In the Window

Ge 6:16a

16 You shall make a window for the ark, and you shall finish it to a cubit from above; . .

A. How do they get any ventilation.

The look Up.

If you’re on an ark with all those animals you do want a window.

B. Through this window they learned about conditions outside

You can learn more about sin from within the ark of safety

Don’t have to drink, smoke, go to worldly amusements.

When I look through the window I see they’re not for me

IV. The Similarity In Jesus As My Window

2 Co 1:20, For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us. NKJV

1 John 5:20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. NKJV

A. You see how is this window paralleled to Jesus

They had to look up if they wanted any light

My friend, if you’ll look to Jesus he will radiate your soul with His light

B. When you’re down in the dumps, just look up & there Jesus is with His light

What a joy it is as a Christian to be able to go to Jesus with all of our burdens

When people say aren’t you worried about this or That Crisis.

I say “no” I’ve got a window

V. The Ark Only Had One Door. Ge 6:16b

“. . . and set the door of the ark in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third decks. NKJV

A. Only one door in Ark

1. Everything that came in the Ark of Safety came in this door....

Giraffe & Duck

Elephant & snail

2. Everybody has to come in the same way

VI. Jesus Is The Only Door To Heaven

Jn 10:7-9

7 Then Jesus said to them again, "Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. 9 I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. NKJV

Jn 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. NKJV

My Friend, I proclaim to you today that there is but one means of salvation today that means - Jesus. I care not how sincere you are - for unless you sincerely trust Jesus for salvation, you are sincerely wrong. And the waters of sin shall drown you. You are already on your way to hell.

I care not if you have been baptized - unless you have trusted Jesus you went down a dry sinner and came up a wet one. You can be baptized in every river, creek or stream until you know every tadpole by name and still be lost.

You can be a member of a Baptist Church and still be lost.

I could go on and on until I mentioned everyone of the devil’s substitutes for salvation, but its still the same.

1. You’ve got to come in the door

2. In Jesus is the place of safety.

VII. There Was Security In The Ark

Genesis 6:14

14 Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch. NKJV

The Ark was safe - Refused to sink - Winds & rain like never before

Because God meant for the Ark to be a means of salvation for His people

VIII. There Is Security In Jesus. Eph 1:13-14

In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. NKJV

God sent His Son to save His people.

God means for Jesus to be as safe as the Ark so that no one that comes in the door is ever lost. Doesn’t that make you want to shout “PRAISE THE LORD?” That’s just how salvation is

Saved People have Jesus on both sides

Jesus inside & outside. The only way the devil can get me is to come in the door, but we are told that anyone who comes in that door is saved. Notice that the Ark was safe because God closed the door, nobody could go in or out.

Finally they rested on dry ground & God allowed the door to be opened - Safe on dry ground. Some day the door will open for all Christians. I’ll be let out on Eternity’s Shore, safe to be with Jesus ever more.

I’m so secure in Jesus that I can swing over hell on a rotten corn stalk and sing. “Amazing Grace How Sweet the sound.”

IX. Similarity In The Faith Principal

Hebrews 11:7

7 By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith. NKJV

X. Similarity In Faith In Jesus

Romans 3:22-26

22 even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, 26 to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. NKJV

Some never believed the Preaching of Noah - for them it was too late!

They came at last to knock on the door of the Ark. "Let Me In Noah, I Believe, I believe."

It was too late, for God had Closed The Door. Come while the door is open.
