INTRODUCTION

Jesus is God’s love gift to the world. He offers hope to a world held in the grip of sin. There has never been anyone who gave so much at such a great price as the Son of God. There has never been a gift that has had such a profound effect upon the world.

I. PROMINENCE OF THE SON

A. CHRIST’S RELATIONSHIP.

1. Sonship of Christ.

a. Son of the Highest. (Deity, Immanuel, Matt. 1:23)

b. Son of Mary. (Humanity, Luke 1:34-38, 2:7)

c. Son of David. (Heir to the throne of David, Luke. 1:32-22; Isa. 9:6-7)

2. Savior to the lost. (Luke 19:10)

B. CHRIST’S ROYALTY.

1. King at His birth. (Matt. 2:2)

2. King at His death. (John 18:33-37; 19:19-22)

3. King at His return. (Luke 1:32-33; Rev. 19:11-16)

“But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever; a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of thy kingdom.” (Hebrews 1:8)

II. PRECIOUSNESS OF THE SON

A. PRECIOUS TO THE HEAVENLY FATHER.

1. Beloved of the Father. (Matt. 3:17; 17:5)

2. Blessed by the Father. (John 8:54, 10:17; Phil. 2:9-11)

B. PRECIOUS TO THE HOST OF ANGELS.

1. Angel proclaimed the good news. (Luke 2:10-11)

2. Angels praised Christ’s birth. (Luke 2:13)

C. PRECIOUS TO THE REDEEMED.

1. Simeon’s prophecy. (Luke 2:25-35)

2. Anna’s praise. (Luke 2:36-38)

III. PROMISE OF THE SON

A. PROMISE OF HIS NAME.

1. Significance of the name “Jesus.” (Matt. 1:21)

2. Salvation in His name. (Acts 4:12)

B. PROMISE OF ETERNAL LIFE.

1. God’s grace in providing salvation. (Eph. 2:4-5)

2. God’s free gift of salvation. (Rom. 5:15, 6:23: Eph. 2:8)

LESSONS FOR LIFE:

1. The birth of Christ brought hope, forgiveness, and eternal life into the world.

2. The gift of salvation is a gift every individual needs.

3. The gift of God is available to as many as will receive Christ as Savior and Lord.

4. The gift of salvation is free but carries a great consequence if rejected.
