Give Thanks To The Lord (Outline)

Bible Book: Psalms  105
Subject: Thanksgiving; Praise; Gratitude

Introduction

Psalms 105:1-5

The natural response of the saved for the mercy and grace of God is to give thanks and praise. All the spiritual blessings we have received come not because we deserve them but because God is good. The Psalmist reminds Israel of her covenant with God and His faithfulness. This is a reminder of our covenant with Christ, which is sealed in His own blood.

I. RESPONSE TO GOD

A. PRAISE TO GOD

“give thanks”

B. PRAYER TO GOD

  “call upon His name”

C. PROCLAIMATION OF GOD

“make known His deeds”

II. REJOICING IN GOD

A. SINGING OF HIS PRAISE

“I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.” (Ps. 104:33)

“Praise ye the LORD; for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is fitting.” (Ps. 147:1)

B. SPEAKING OF HIS WORKS

“Many, O LORD, my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward; they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee. If I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.”

(Ps. 40:5)

C. SPLENDOR OF HIS NAME

“Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; bring an offering, and come before him; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.” (1 Chron. 16:29)

“By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to his name.” (Heb. 13:15)

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” (1 Pet. 2:9)

D. SEEKING OF HIS PRESENCE (v. 4)

“Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near.” (Isa. 55:6)

“Let all those who seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee; let such as love thy salvation say continually, The LORD be magnified.” (Ps. 40:16)

“The LORD is nigh unto all those who call upon him, to all who call upon him in truth.” (Ps. 145:18)

III. REMEMBERING OUR GOD

A. REMEMBER THE PAST (v. 5)
B. REMEMBER HIS PERSON (v. 7)

LESSONS FOR LIFE:

1. The giving of thanks renews the heart and fuels our faith to trust God.

2. The giving of thanks will keep us humble before God.

3. The giving of thanks is the will of God for us.

“In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (1 Thess. 5:18)
