Glorify God Through Praise

"I Am Too blessed to be stressed!" The shortest distance between a problem and a solution is the distance between your knees and the floor. The one who kneels to the Lord can stand up to anything. Love and peace be with you forever, Amen. What a multitude of ways to express praise. In the text   lets look at some other expressions of praise.

I. Praise For The Promises Of God 15:8

8 “Now I say that Christ has become a servant of the circumcised on behalf of the truth of God, to confirm the promises to the fathers…”

A. Praise For The Service Of The Promises 15:8a

“Now I say that Christ has become a servant of the circumcised…”

B. Praise For The Surety Of The Promises 15:8b

“…on behalf of the truth of God,…”

C. Praise For The Substantiation Of The Promises 15:8c

“…to confirm the promises to the fathers,…”

A promise from God is a statement we can depend on with absolute confidence. Here are 12 promises for the Christian to claim.

1. God’s presence—“I will never leave thee” (Heb. 13:5)

2. God’s protection—“I am thy shield” (Gen. 15:1)

3. God’s power—“I will strengthen thee” (Isa. 41:10)

4 God’s provision —“I will help thee” (Isa. 41:10) 5.

5. God’s leading —“And when He putteth forth His own sheep, He goeth before them” (John 10:4)

6. God’s purposes —“I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil” (Jer. 20:11)

7. God’s rest —“Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matt. 11:28)

8. God’s cleansing —“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9)

9. God’s goodness —“No good thing will He withhold from them that work uprightly” (Ps. 84:11)

10. God’s faithfulness—“The Lord will not forsake His people for His great name’s sake” (1 Sam. 12:22)

11. God’s guidance—“The meek will He guide” (Psalm 25:9)

12. God’s wise plan—“All things work together for good to them that love God” (Rom. 8:28) (Our Daily Bread, January 1, 1985)

II. Praise For The People Of God 15:9-11

“and so that Gentiles may glorify God for His mercy. As it is written: Therefore I will praise You among the Gentiles, and I will sing psalms to Your name. 10 Again it says: Rejoice, you Gentiles, with His people! 11 And again: Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles; all the peoples should praise Him!”

A. Praise For All Gentiles 15:9

“…and so that Gentiles may glorify God for His mercy. As it is written: Therefore I will praise You among the Gentiles, and I will sing psalms to Your name.”

B. Praise For All Jews 15:10

“Again it says: Rejoice, you Gentiles, with His people!”

C. Praise For All Peoples 15:11

“And again: Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles; all the peoples should praise Him!”

It is said that one morning Dr. Gifford of Boston said, "Anyone who is really saved can win souls." After the service one of the members said, "Dr. Gifford, you are usually so kind; but this morning you said, 'Anyone can win souls if he is really saved.' But you know I am a poor widow and remain at home, making my living by sewing." Her pastor said, "Does anyone ever come to your home? Do the milkman, the grocery boy, the paper boy, and others ever come to your home?" She replied, "Yes, they come every day." Then he said, "Good-by." She began thinking and praying and resolved to speak to the milkman the next morning.

When the milkman came, she said, "Are you a Christian?" He sadly replied, "No, I am not: I am lost." Then she spoke to him about his soul and then knelt and prayed him through. Dr. Gifford states that, before the year had passed, this woman had led fifty souls to Christ. (William Moses Tidwell, "Pointed Illustrations.")

III. Praise For The Personal Provision Of God 15:12

“And again, Isaiah says: The root of Jesse will appear, the One who rises to rule the Gentiles; in Him the Gentiles will hope.”

“…the One who rises to rule the Gentiles; in Him the Gentiles will hope.” It is not thy hold on Christ that saves thee - It is Christ.

It is not thy joy in Christ that saves thee, - It is Christ. It is not even thy faith, Though that be the instrument, It is Christ’s blood and merit alone! - Spurgeon

IV. Praise For The Power Of God 15:13

13 “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

B. Praise For The Fullness Of The Power Of God 15:13a

“…so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Louis Albert Banks tells of an elderly Christian man, a fine singer, who learned that he had cancer of the tongue and that surgery was required. In the hospital after everything was ready for the operation, the man said to the doctor, “Are you sure I will never sing again?” The surgeon found it difficult to answer his question. He simply shook his head no.

The patient then asked if he could sit up for a moment. “I’ve had many good times singing the  praises of God,” he said. “And now you tell me I can never sing again. I have one song that will be my last. It will be of gratitude and praise to God.” There in the doctor’s presence the man sang softly the words of Isaac Watts’ hymn,

I’ll praise my Maker while I’ve Breath, And when my voice is lost in death, Praise shall employ my nobler power; My days of praise shall ne’er be past, While life, and thought, and being last,

Or immortality endures.” (Our Daily Bread, January 15)
