Jets and Hypocrites

Jets and HypocritesHypocrisy is dreadful anywhere one finds it. Usually, hypocrisy exists where one wants others to live or act in a way defined by rules which he does not wish to observe personally.I read something interesting in the The Sunday Times on Sunday, November 29, 2009. The British Newspaper reported some interesting hypocrisy on the part of those who claim to stand for global warming. They wrote about Sheryl Crow who called on people to save trees by using less toilet paper, but she toured America in a 30-person entourage followed by a fleet of 13 gas-guzzling vehicles. They wrote about John Travolta who encouraged the British public to do its bit to fight global warming - after flying into London on one of his five, yes, five private jets (one of which is a Boeing 707).Then there is Tom Cruise who campaigns for an LA based environmental group though he owns 5 planes, including a customised Gulfstream he recently bought his wife, Katie Holmes.Harrison Ford, Oprah Winfrey, and Dame Trudie Styler (wife of Sting) are mentioned as violating their own statements about the importance of sacrifice in the face of global warming. They all fly in private jets that they own, and add tons of carbon to the atmosphere while doing so.One of the most interesting stories concerns Jennifer Aniston who told all of us that she saves energy by brushing her teeth while in the shower. What she didn’t tell us was that she flew a hairdresser all the way to Europe to accompany her on a recent publicity tour for the film Marley & Me.There is much more in the article than we need to deal with at this point. However, imagine how these same people act if one Christian is caught violating a Commandment. Hypocrisy is an ugly sin. We Christians must be careful not to give fuel to the world’s complaints against us and our Lord. In the meantime, use less toilet paper, brush your teeth in the shower and drive a car size of a matchbox. After all, we must save energy so the “stars” can fly all over the world in those private jets!Dr. J. Mike MinnixEditorPastorLifewww.pastorlife.commminnix@gabaptist.org
