PossibilityA plaque on the wall of golfer Arnold Palmer’s office reads, “But sooner or later, the man who wins is the man who thinks he can.”Matthew 19:26, “But Jesus looked at them and said to them, ‘With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’" NKJVLife is an adventure. We welcome every day with the knowledge that great things can happen. The pessimist doesn’t think so. This zinger describes some people: A pessimist is one who feels bad when he feels good for fear he will feel worse when he feels better (Zingers, p. 230). Looking at life with positive expectancy will never hurt anyone. Recently, I had the honor of speaking in a memorial service for one of my heroes. Jim Beauchamp, former Houston Astro and Atlanta Braves coach, died on Christmas Day 2007. Jim lived a dream life. He captured the “possible.” He grew up wanting to be a baseball player. He lived and breathed baseball for 50 years. All things are possible. Our archenemy, Satan, desires nothing more than to plant negative seeds in the hearts of God’s children. He loves to see believers back away from opportunities of service and ministry. The Devil’s job is to thwart God’s plan for mankind. He knows he was defeated at Calvary, but he enjoys slowing down Christians. God places opportunities and possibilities all around us. Our attitude must be one that accepts the impossible as possible. We must live in the assurance that if God is with me I can do all things. A Christian with that kind of attitude is refreshing to everyone. Are you attempting impossible things? Is your attitude negative so that you don’t attempt anything that is difficult? Have you lost your sense of adventure in this walk? Today, ask God for a renewed spirit. Grab the next impossible opportunity and watch God accomplish more than you ever thought. Life is full of great possibilities.Opportunity knocks, but you must open the door!Think on these thingsDr. David HammondsSardis Baptist ChurchPalmetto, Georgia
