Disappointment

Psalm 84:11, "For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly.” NKJV

(When I read the following story from David Hammond, I thought about how often we are disappointed in life. Have you been disappointed in the previous year? Sure you have! And, you are likely to be disappointed during the New Year as well. But, when we learn to wait on God, we discover that He knew best all the time! Dr. J. Mike Minnix, editor, www.pastorlife.com.)

When I was 10 years old my dad bought a home with some acreage. He gave me permission to clear off and maintain about one and one-half acres. I was so excited because I knew the reason for his permission. He was going to let me have a horse. Every year at Christmas and every year on my birthday, I expected him to come home with my horse. Every year my disappointment grew. I could not understand because we lived in such an ideal place for a horse. Years later I was horseback riding in Wyoming and was thrown from the horse. Then I understood why my dad did not let me have a horse.

Often the Christian's life encounters disappointments. We think God should have done something special for us. We just knew that we were going to get that new car. We believed with all our hearts that new job was ours. Some believers have been so disappointed that they start withdrawing fellowship with the Heavenly Father. Our verse today is such an important verse in this area. God will not withhold good things from us. When He does not give us what we want, it is for our benefit. He says "no" for our protection. God is good all the time.

Are you struggling over a disappointment? God did not keep good things away from you just to teach you a lesson. He desires the best for us. Sometimes God will show us why He withheld something that we wanted, other times we must trust Him. Today give all your disappointments to Christ. He will hear your confession and give you peace. The day will have new meaning when you don't live in disappointment.
