The HeaterJohn 18:18, “Now the servants and officers who had made a fire of coals stood there, for it was cold, and they warmed themselves. And Peter stood with them and warmed himself.” NKJVSome who visit our home find the temperature inside a little cool. Sometimes you may find the AC (air conditioner) mysteriously on in the middle of winter. When our kids visit they generally find a blanket to keep themselves warm. To reconcile this unusual coolness we will sometimes plug in an electrical heater. It soon has the den at a comfortable temperature. What is funny is that the first one to go to the heater is our little Boston Terrier, Lady. Lady will lie down in front of the heater and stay there. She really enjoys the heater. For the believer the world is cold. When our Lord prayed in the garden He prayed for His children. He knew the world would not offer us a warm reception. What's a child of God to do? We are to warm ourselves by the fire of God's Word. We are to find the warmth of our personal relationship with Him. Walking and talking with Jesus will warm any heart on a cold day. Peter found himself warming by the fire of God's enemies. Later he would be brokenhearted and repent. So it is with those who warm themselves with the heat of the world. It is not lasting. It is not soothing. God's fire is a consuming fire. He satisfies and warms the heart of His people. Are you shivering from the cold of the world? Have you lost the warmth of living? God does not want us to stay miserable. He offers us the warmth of His fire. He wants to shelter us from the cold ravages of sin. Let the Savior warm you today. Call on Him, confess your coolness and warm up today. The world is easier to tolerate when the Love of God warms you.Anyone seen my gloves?!!think on these thingsDavid HammondsSardis Baptist ChurchPalmetto, Georgia
