DaVinci and the Barber

By Darwin Bullock
Type: Story
Subject: DaVinci Code
A man went to a barbershop to have his hair and his beard cut. He began a conversation with the barber who attended him. They talked about many things, and finally touched on the subject of God. The barber said, "Look man, I don't believe that God exists.""Why do you say that?" asked the surprised customer."You just have to go out in the street to realize that God does not exist. If God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God exists, would there be suffering or pain? I can't think of loving a God who permits all of these things."The customer thought for a moment, but he didn't respond because he did not want to start an argument. The barber finished his job and the customer paid and left. Just after he stepped out of the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with unkempt long hair and beard. The customer reentered the barbershop and said to the barber, "You know what? Barbers do not exist.""How can you say they don't exist?" asked the surprised barber."I am here and I am a barber. Why, I just worked on you!""No," the customer exclaimed, "Barbers don't exist, because if they did there would be no people with long hair and beards like that man who is outside.""Barbers do exist. The problem is that people do not come to see them.""Exactly my point!" affirmed the customer. "God does exist. What happens is people don't go see Him. That's why there's so much pain and suffering in the world."I like this customer's reasoning skills. In the movie, Napoleon Dynamite, Napoleon says that girls only want guys with great skills. I am not sure if most girls are impressed with guys who have reasoning skills, but it should be a skill that every Christian develops. The Apostle Paul had good reasoning skills. Acts 17:17 says, "So he was reasoning in the synagogue with the Jews and the God- fearing Gentiles, and in the market place every day with those who happened to be present." I would like to sit down and reason with Dan Brown, the author behind the new movie The DaVinci Code. I would ask him the following questions. These questions bring up some inconsistencies in his thinking:1. Why do you use the Bible to make Mary Magdalene worthy of worship as a goddess, but at the same time use the Bible to make Christ just a human, when the Bible actually teaches the opposite?2. Why do you think the Bible is good enough to tell us the truth about Mary Magdalene as a person, but only tells us lies about Jesus?.3. Why do you disqualify Jesus from being divine because of His supposed relationship with Mary Magdalene, but you make her into a goddess because of the same imaginary relationship?Darwin Bullock(See his information in the Author's section of PastorLife)
