But, Will It Work On Humans?

It was late one night and I couldn’t sleep. I decided to watch some television in hopes of watching something so boring that I could doze off to dream land. This has never worked for me because I can always find an old show that is interesting, and instead of getting sleepy, I get even more wide awake. One thing that I have noticed about television in the early morning hours is the exciting commercials. The commercials that are shown at 2:00 a.m. are fantastic break-though discoveries only available to people who can’t sleep. Whether it is a tool that can repair holes in furniture, or a superb music collection that is not sold in stores, you can only buy it between the hours of 1:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m.!

I have noticed one commercial that has attracted my attention enough to write down the toll free number and ask some questions. This break-through product is a natural herb promised to relieve pain and restore movements to joints for cats and dogs. You simply spray this medicine in their water dish, and in a short time your pet is pain-free and is able to run around the yard like a puppy. This commercial doesn’t just claim to make a difference for your pet, they actually show pets who had to be pushed around in a cart now running around having a great time with their owners. I’m not sure how the pets can tell their owners they are “Pain-free,” but the owners on the commercial sure seemed convinced.

As I was watching this commercial at 2:00 a.m. a thought entered my mind. I probably would not have entertained the thought in the middle of the day, but past midnight my decision making process is not at 100 percent. Here is my thought, “This miracle drug may work on dogs and cats, but does it work on humans? I am middle-aged, and my shoulders, legs, and such hurt from time to time, this would be great if it could help me. My wife has rheumatoid arthritis, and I know she would love a medication that would allow her to be pain-free and run around in the yard with me! The cost was very reasonable, and if I called in the next few minutes, they would double my order! So, I called the number on the screen, hoping to talk to someone to ask about the possibility of this medication being effective with humans. No such luck. I listened to a series of prerecorded messages, but I was never offered the opportunity to talk to a real live person. I didn’t buy the medicine, but I was tempted. I was afraid that if I did take the medicine my nose might get wet and cold and I would begin to howl at the moon. Even with a miracle drug, there are always a few side effects. And besides, I’m not sure if I could get my wife to drink from a bowl after I had sprayed six squirts of that stuff in it. If you decide to give it a try, call me and let me know how it worked out.

It would be nice if every problem we faced could be remedied by a spray, pill, or a shot. Certainly, modern medicine has helped many people (and their pets) with ailments and other problems. However, problems come in all shapes and sizes and we need to have the right attitude in dealing with them.

Philippians 4:6-7 tells us, “Don’t worry about anything, instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. They you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” I am grateful that God has blessed people to help us physically when sickness comes to our homes. I am also grateful that when we experience God’s peace in our lives we can deal with anything life has in store for us. Remember, don’t give in to sin. Think about it!
