Liar, Liar

By Johnny L. Sanders
Type: Story
Subject: Lying; Truth

My wife and I stopped by my brother's law office, where his paralegal met us and took us to a very impressive conference room and went out into the hall and recruited two associates to witness our signatures on a document. Mike was at home, fighting a bug, but he had set up the meeting by his iPhone.

After signing, we visited with the lady and two young men. I don't remember how it came up, but the paralegal said, "Mike had to deal with a witness the other day who lied about everything. He caught her in every one, but she kept lying."

Mike loves trial work, defending clients against lawyers like you see advertising on TV and billboards. He loves it when another lawyers throws something unexpected at him to force him to think on his feet. What the other lawyer may not know is that Mike has probably gone through the case from so many angles that he anticipates that "surprise witness" or surprise testimony.

My son John seldom mentions his trial work or that of others. I know he respects his Uncle Mike and one day I asked him something about Mike. He said, "Let me say this: there may be some as good as Uncle Mike, but there are none better than he is."

When the paralegal finished her story I said, "I would hate to be on the witness stand and try to lie to Mike." He has gone over every question carefully and anticipates various answers, and sequences that may follow.

Okay, what this means is that if you lie to Mike Sanders on the witness stand, you may be embarrassed. In fact, you may have to pay a price for that lie.

Lie to Mike, lie to your spouse, lie to your children, lie to your employer, and you can be sure Jesus Christ will know it every time. Mike may have his problem with liars, but he is limited in what he can do about it. Lie to God, or in His presence and - well, let Him explain it:

"But the cowards, unbelievers, vile, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars—their share will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.” Rev 21:8 (HCSB)
