Dr. Purdie has a rich and varied educational background. His studies include work at Gerogia State University, Kennesaw College, Columbia Theological Seminary, Theological Seminary of the West Indies, and Bob Jones University. In addition, he has an earned BS degree from Mercer University, a MDIV from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, a MD degree from Emory University Medical School, and is a graduate of the Floyd Medical Center Family Practice Residency Program. Dr. Purdie also served in the Naval Air Reserves. Dr. Purdie's first church was the Sandtown Baptist Chruch where he served from August of 1980 to April of 1987. Prior to his time at Sandtown, he served as a youth minister of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro, Georgia, and Valley Hill Baptist in Riverdale, Georgia, where he was ordained in 1976. Sensing the Lord calling him to medical school, he left the full-time pastorate but did not leave the ministry. After Sandtown, he has served as an interim pastor of Sardis Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia, Shady Grove Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia, Noonday Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia, Picketts Ridge Mission Church in Acworth, Georgia, First Baptist Church of Cumming Georgia, Orange Hill Baptist Church in Austell Georgia, Fortified Hills Baptist in Marietta, Georgia, and Pumpkinevine Baptist in Dallas, Georgia. He as had the privilege of speaking at conferences, retreats, and often pulpit supplies. He also served as chaplain of Civitan North District of Georgia. Dr. Purdie's calling has lead him to serve the Lord on mission trips to Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Haiti, China, Indonesia, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Peru. Dr. Purdie and his wife Lou Ann live in Rome, Georgia where he has practiced medicine for over sixteen years. They have four children.
