The late Dr. Stephen Olford was Founder and Senior Lecturer of the Stephen Olford Center for Biblical Preaching. He is known for his expository preaching and pastoral leadership.
Dr. Olford served as Minister of Duke Street Baptist Church in Richmond, Surrey, England (1953-1959) and the famed Calvary Baptist Church in New York City (1959-1973).
He was the voice of the "Encounter" radio program, a weekly 30 minute presentation heard in the United States, Canada and overseas. He has been honored twice by the National Religious Broadcasters. On February 4, 1987 he received the Distinguished Service Award in Washington, D.C. for 27 years of radio broadcasting and the NRB South Central Chapter Honor Award on October 5, 1991 for over 30 years of faithful presentation of Christ through media.
In 1980 Dr. Olford founded the Institute for Biblical Preaching to promote biblical preaching and provide practical training for the Christian ministry. He wants to see expository preaching restored to the pulpit, spiritual revival in the church, mobilized evangelism in the world, and righteousness and social justice in our nation.
Dr. Olford and his wife, Heather, have two sons: Jonathan and David, both involved in full-time Christian work.
Dr. Olford went home to be Lord 2006.
