George Hamilton, the actor, is well known for his deep tan. Recently he has been on a commercial advertising a food product that is toasted. The idea is that the food product is healthier because it is toasted and not fried. He finishes the commercial with the statement, "And I know toasted." This, of course, is referring to his deep tan. I think it is a clever commercial.
It brings to mind, though, about the dangers of exposure to the ultra-violet rays of the sun. We are constantly warned about the danger of skin cancer. Many products now have SPF (Sun Protection Factor) ratings. We are encouraged to use high numbers in the SPF ratings. The risk of exposure is preached by almost everyone.
As believers we are to take care of this body. It is God's temple. We should be careful about exposure to the sun, but we must also know that there must be exposure to the SON. Our verse today keeps the need of exposure to the light as a high priority. God is Light and in Him is no darkness at all. We should make sure that we get plenty of exposure to Him.
If you have been staying out of the light you might need to rethink your position. Get into God's light today and get toasted by God. He will keep you looking good spiritually.
