The Right or Wrong idea about Easter

Darwin's Theory

What do Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday mean to you? It is easy to get the wrong meaning of Easter. The story is told of a preacher that wanted to stage an elaborate demonstration about sin. He used four worms to illustrate his point. The first worm was put into a container of alcohol. The second worm was put into a container of cigarette smoke. The third worm was put into a container of chocolate syrup. The fourth worm was put into a container of good, clean soil. At the conclusion of the sermon, the minister reported the following results: The first worm in alcohol - Dead. The second worm in cigarette smoke - Dead. The third worm in chocolate syrup - Dead. The fourth worm in good, clean soil - Alive. So the minister asked the congregation, "What can you learn from this demonstration?" A little old woman in the back quickly raised her hand and said, "As long as you drink, smoke, and eat chocolate, you won't have worms!"

I hope you don't get the wrong meaning out of Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday. To me, this week means that Jesus was willing to enter my world. He left Heaven to come into my life. What an amazing thought! "And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth" (John 1:14). Another thing Easter means to me is that Jesus met God's requirements that I could not meet. He lived a perfect life. Adam and Eve sinned in a perfect environment. Jesus lived a perfect life in a sinful environment. "For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit" (Romans 8:3-4).

Good Friday also means to me that Jesus took my punishment. He died on a cruel cross for me. "Surely our griefs He Himself bore, And our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted. But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed" (Isaiah 53:4-5).

Death is the bully on the block of life. This week we celebrate that our big brother, Jesus, put a whoopin' on the bully of death. I hope you get past the Easter Bunny to see the real meaning of Easter. Not only is the gift of Easter an opportunity of a lifetime, it an opportunity beyond our lifetime. An opportunity to spend eternity with Christ in Heaven.
