Can you keep a fire going in the rain? Chuck Swindoll says that is one of the things he remembers about his dad. As Christians, we are called to have fire in our life. John the Baptist said, "As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He (Jesus) who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire" (Matthew 3:11). Our job is to keep the fire burning. I believe the place we keep the fire burning is in the spiritual Living Room of our heart home. The book My Heart Christ''s Home by Robert Munger says, "From the dining room we walked into the living room. This room was intimate and comfortable. I liked it. It had a fireplace, overstuffed chairs, a sofa, and a quiet atmosphere. He also seemed pleased with it. He said, "This is indeed a delightful room. Let us come here often. It is secluded and quiet, and we can fellowship together."

Do you have a place of fellowship with Jesus? He wants to come into your Living Room and hang out with you and show you what real living is all about. This is the way you were made and what you were made for (Genesis 1:27). Jesus is our power source for keeping the fire burning.

Matt Redman in his book The Unquenchable Worshiper says, "Too often worship is tamed by the complications and struggles of this world. But I long to be in a place where my fire for God cannot be quenched or washed away, even by the mightiest rivers of opposition-I long for a worship that can never be extinguished." He goes on to point out three things that every fire needs: heat, oxygen, and fuel. Fires are usually put out with water, cutting off the oxygen, or cutting off the fuel it thrives on. The trials and struggles in life can be like water on the fire of our passion for Christ. When the Holy Spirit is leading us in ways of righteousness and we say "no" it is like robbing our spiritual fire of oxygen. The fuel I thrive on in my personal life is God''s revelation mainly in His Word, the Bible. It is a fire-builder and -keeper in my life. I thrive on it. However, God reveals Himself to me through His creation (Psalm 97:5-6; Romans 1:20), His people throughout the Bible and the history of the Church, and He reveals Himself in His presence, which is there to be experienced in the Living Room of my heart home.

In 1922, after many years of searching, Howard Carter discovered King Tut's tomb. The 3000-plus objects (riches) there took him over 10 years to remove, catalog, and restore. I have discovered a living King with riches that will take an eternity for me to catalog. You can discover Him, too. If you are a Christian, He's right there waiting in your heart and home. Spend time with Him and keep the fire burning, even in the storms of life.
