Sunday Christian

Title: Sunday Christian
Subject: God as Father
Darwin's Theory - Sunday Christian

God does not want weekend visitation; He wants full custody of His children. We live in a culture full of broken homes where children are fought over because of visitation rights. In God's family, He is fighting for full custody for His children, but we are giving Him weekend visits. I am sure you know some "Sunday Christians" who warm the pew on Sunday but their heart is as cold as ice toward God during the week. One can find these pew warmers in hot pursuit of the world the rest of the week. They are the ones who sit on the premesis but can't stand on the promises.

In the courtroom, a judge will often allow a child of a certain age to choose with which parent he wants to live. God allows us to choose whether we are going to be totally His or just weekend visitors. He wants us to love Him with all our heart (Matthew 22:37) and that means with our time, money, and resources too.

The Bible says, "Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide, and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter by it" (Matthew 7:13). I believe many weekend visitors in the church are going to wake up one day and find themselves on the wide road. I pray it won't be too late. Did you notice where the wide road leads? To destruction. There are many people today who are wondering why their life seems like such a mess. It could be the road you are on. Jesus says, "He who is not with Me is against Me" (Matthew 12:30). Jesus is asking you today is, "Are you with Me?"

The way you answer that question will determine "Who's your daddy." God wants to be your daddy, but Satan does too. Jesus says, "If God were your Father, you would love Me (John 8:42). He was talking to a group of religious people when He said that. They were a group that attended synagogue (church) each weekend. Jesus tells them who they belong to by saying, "You are of your father the devil (John 8:44). The devil comes to steal, kill, and to destroy your life (John 10:10). Satan wants you to give God weekend visitation only. What will you choose? Will you be a "Sunday Christian?" Or will you give Him full custody, and begin standing on the promises.
