Permission To Be Happy

Nehemiah 8:10, "Then he said to them, ''Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.''" NKJV

I grew up as a PK (preacher's kid). Many blessings accompanied that privilege, but there was one drawback for me. The lifestyle we lived was one of constant ministry. There was always a crisis. Someone was sick. Someone had died. Some poor soul had sinned so badly that everybody knew about it. So I felt guilty when I was happy. It just did not seem right to be happy when all this bad stuff was happening. When I felt a twinge of happiness I would immediately think that God saw all this stuff and He did not want me to be frivolous.

The exact opposite is true. God wants us to be happy. He sent His Son to die for our sins. He sent His Son to forgive us and give us a new life. He would not have gone to such great lengths to keep us in misery. He also sent the Holy Spirit to walk with us each day. He supplies us with joy. Our verse today reminds us that we can have His Joy. God is happy. All around Him rejoice. Why should we be different. We can stop feeling guilty about being happy. Enjoy the Lord today.

Have you lost your strength? Do you feel guilty? Do you think about all the bad stuff rather than the blessings? God has purchased your life. He has provided you with every spiritual and physical need. He is so happy that you have trusted Him. Call on Him today. You have His permission to be happy.

No mourners bench!!

Think on these things.
